Having performed internationally, in venues such as the Sydney Opera House & The City Recital Hall, Rieko Makita is an award-winning pianist & composer currently based in London. Rieko made her solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall in February to a sold-out audience and performed live on BBC Radio 3 as the featured artist on ‘In Tune’ with Sean Rafferty in June 2024.

Rieko was the piano fellow for 2021-2022 Philharmonia MMSF Instrumental Fellowship Programme, and Constant/Kit Lambert Fellow at the Royal College of Music London for 2023-2024. As part of her fellowship, Rieko led four innovative projects throughout the year, promoting Japanese composers and classical music in collaboration with visual artists.

She is currently an Young Artist with the Musicians Company, regularly featured artist with DEBUT Classical in London.

Rieko is generously supported by the PRS Foundation.

Rieko's debut EP, 'Where is Home?', explores the idea of home as a feeling, places and the concept itself. The six tracks captures Rieko's journey as she reflects on her life spread across Japan, Australia and the UK; expressing her current state of searching for a home, and also her appreciation for all the places which has shaped her as a musician.

The EP was recorded at World Heart Beat Studios with Robbie Nelson, mastered by Luis Alvarez, and supported by PRS Foundation.
